How Cross & Field’s Mission to Sponsor Youth Sports in Nicaragua and Arkansas Began

Cross & Field is a nonprofit sports organization with a mission close to our hearts: giving every child the chance to participate in youth sports programs regardless of financial barriers. This journey began on a mission trip to Nicaragua, where we saw firsthand the challenges children face to access sports like baseball. These experiences led to the founding of Cross & Field, a youth sports charity with a vision to sponsor kids from Nicaragua and provide community-based sports programs for kids locally in Searcy, Arkansas.

Building a Sister City: Searcy, Arkansas, and Jinotega, Nicaragua

Our nonprofit sports organization partnered with Mision Para Cristo, led by Benny Baker, to establish a “sister city” relationship between Searcy and Jinotega. This partnership allows us to extend youth sports programs beyond borders, helping children in Nicaragua access sports that would otherwise be financially out of reach. A study by the Aspen Institute shows that children engaged in sports have better academic performance and social skills, underscoring why youth sports sponsorship is so critical.

In Nicaragua, 40% of the population lives in poverty, making it hard for families to provide sports opportunities for their children. Sponsoring a child’s sports participation can change their life, building confidence, teamwork, and health. By donating to youth sports programs like Cross & Field, you can provide direct support to children in Jinotega, helping them engage in structured children’s sports programs that are key to their development.

Expanding to Strengthen Local Families through Youth Sports Programs

As we developed our mission, Cross & Field recognized that families in Searcy could also benefit from youth sports programs. In addition to sponsoring youth sports abroad, we offer “team-building” camps and activities to strengthen family bonds here at home. These local sports programs for kids provide affordable and inclusive opportunities, ensuring that all children in Searcy, regardless of income, can participate. In the U.S., the average annual cost for a child to play organized sports such as baseball is $693, which is prohibitive for many families. By supporting youth sports globally and locally, Cross & Field aims to make sports accessible to every child.

Moving Forward with a Commitment to Sponsor Youth Sports

Our nonprofit sports organization has committed to reinvesting 100% of profits from product sales back into our youth sports programs. This dedication supports sponsoring youth sports and allows us to bridge financial gaps for families. Through merchandise sales and fundraising for youth sports programs, we raise funds that ensure the longevity of these initiatives, impacting youth in Arkansas and Nicaragua.
